Even though testing and implementing preventive measures regarding the pandemic should be government duties, the Municipality of Budapest once again plays an important role in the fight against the pandemic.
On the 8th of December 2020, 100K rapid antigen tests arrived to City Hall. Half of these tests will be distributed between the 23 districts according to population numbers.
The other 50K tests will be used to test employees of universal service providers that play crucial roles in day-to-day functions of the city. These antigen tests will be accessible to the following companies:
- Centre for Budapest Transport (BKK)
- Budapest Transport Privately Held Corporation (BKV)
- Budapest Waterworks, Metropolitan Police
- Budapest Funeral Institute
- FKF Nonprofit cPlc.
The Capital also continues to test social workers, protecting those taking care of the elderly and the homeless within the frameworks of an enhanced testing program.
“Neither the pandemic, nor the citizens of Budapest are interested in the responsibilities of institutions. All they care about is that we can put this devastating epidemic behind us as soon as possible. We continue to fight for our citizens.” say Gergely Karácsony in a Facebook post.
